Biography
Dr. Fernando A. Angarita grew up in Bogota, Colombia. He received his medical doctorate from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogota, Colombia. After graduating from medical school, he completed a Master of Science in oncolytic virotherapy at the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto, ON, Canada. He completed general surgery residency at the University of Toronto. Dr. Angarita became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2020. He was certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery in 2021. He completed a Society of Surgical Oncology-approved breast surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY.
Dr. Angarita has joined the division of Surgical Oncology at Houston Methodist Hospital after completing his fellowship. His clinical focus includes both breast cancer and benign breast disease. Dr. Angarita’s research interest is in geriatric oncology, particularly in studying how treatment outcomes and decision-making can be optimized in older women with breast cancer.
